Can’t-miss events in Stockholm 2020

2020 is full of amazing events in Stockholm! Stuck on what to do, where to go and events to attend this year? Fear not, we have condensed a list of our favorite events in 2020 that you simply cannot miss!

March 21, Astrid S goes on her biggest tour ever – which is also completely climate neutral! In addition to the four beloved songs from Astrid S’s latest EP “Down Low”, fans will experience a unique selection of songs that have not yet been released. Saturday, March 21, the Norwegian star will come to Nalen in Stockholm!

March 23, Whitney Houston: The Greatest Love Of All. It took more than 15 000 auditions in over 11 countries and four months of intensive work. When South African Belinda Davids took the stage, there was no longer any doubt. The Greatest Love Of All is a tribute to Whitney Houston who tragically passed away in 2012 with several of her biggest hits, “I Will Always Love You”, “I Wanna Dance With Somebody,” “Didn´t We Almost Have It All,” “I´m Every Woman”, “Exhale (Shoop Shoop)” and many, many more. Place: Cirkus arena, Djurgården.

May 20, Queenie Forever. With hundreds of concerts across Europe and Asia since 2006, Queenie has received enthusiastic fans worldwide. Queenie performs all the songs on the original instruments, no recorded music on the track machine, exactly the same as Queen did. The combination of original instrumentation and Michael Kluch’s fantastic voice make each show a unique and impressive live experience full of energy. Place: Cirkus arena, Djurgården.

May 29 – May 31, Elitloppet Harness Racing Championship. The competition is regarded as one of the most prestigious international events in trotting and it is an annual event that has been taken place since 1952. The best horses in the world are invited, and both the eliminations and the finals are raced over a mile (1 609 meters).

May 30, ASICS Stockholm Marathon takes place right in the heart of Sweden’s capital to the sound of thousands of leaping feet, the song of gulls and the cheering of the spectators along the streets.

June 3 – June 7, Smaka på Stockholm (A Taste of Stockholm) is an early summer food festival in Sweden. Every year it attracts more than 350 000 visitors all with a shared passion for food and drink. You’ll get the chance to meet some of Sweden’s most renowned chefs and bakers and have the opportunity to taste the dishes from over 40 great restaurants, cafés, and food trucks.

June 16, Alicia Keys. Global music icon and 15-fold Grammy Award-winner Alicia Keys makes a long-awaited return to the stage with Alicia – The World Tour. The world-famous artist is coming to Stockholm and Ericsson Globe on Tuesday, June 16 for an unforgettable concert!

June 17, Pet Shop Boys begins the European tour “Dreamworld: The Greatest Hits Live” in Berlin, May 1. The duo and the tour will come to Sweden and Ericsson Globe on June 17!

June 26 – June 28, Lollapalooza returns to Stockholm 2020! Just like last year, it will be held in the beautiful fields of Gärdet. Post Malone, Pearl Jam, The Killers, Kendrick Lamar, and many more artists!

July 14, Gwen Stefani. A three-time Grammy Award winner, Gwen Stefani has achieved global success as a performer, songwriter, frontwoman for the iconic rock band No Doubt, and multi-platinum solo artist. To date, she’s sold more than 50 million units worldwide, including her four-times-platinum debut solo album Love.Angel.Music.Baby. On July 14, she performs at Gröna Lund in Stockholm for the first time. 

August 22, Céline Dion. With more than 250 million albums sold worldwide, Céline Dion is one of the most recognized, respected and successful singers of our time in the history of pop music.

July 27 – August 2, Stockholm Pride is one of Stockholm’s largest annual festivals, as well as the largest Pride celebration in Scandinavia. It is a big, happy colorful event that attracts LGBT+ visitors from around the world. In the main festival area “Pride Park” there will be concerts, shows, workshops, and debates. Of course, there will also be a Pride parade and lots of parties! Events are published on the Stockholm Pride website.

August 11 – August 15, The Stockholm Cultural Festival is the city’s recurring cultural festival in August, conducted by the City of Stockholm. The cultural festival takes place at the same time as the youth festival We Are Sthlm in Kungsträdgården. The festival takes place in Stockholm’s inner city, the venues are Gustav Adolf’s square, Karl XII’s square (Dansbanan), Skeppsbron, St Jacob’s church and the family area at Norrbro. The program ranges widely and includes everything from world music, jazz, opera, classical, pop, rock, activities for children/family, talks, street art, theatre, walks (walking tours), art, dance, photography and international performances.
Visiting the Culture Festival is free.

August 17 – August 23, Stockholm Design Week. Together with Formex, the leading Nordic interior design arena, Summer Design Week presents inspiring events, and exhibitions promoting design. A week that engages design-interested people living in, and visiting, Stockholm. During the week in August, the city of Stockholm is buzzing with design events, openings, seminars, dinner parties, and cocktails. Summer Design Week is a great meeting place for us who love design. 

September 18 – 19, Elton John – Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour. Elton’s career achievements are unprecedented in both scope and lifetime. He is one of the best selling solo artists of all time. In January 2018, the “Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour” was announced at New York’s Gotham Hall. This three-year-long tour began in September 2018 and includes five continents and over 350 dates.

October 9 – October 18, Stockholm Jazz Festival is one of the oldest festivals in Sweden and one of the biggest events in Stockholm. During this 10 day festival, around 160 concerts at 60 different venues are held all around the city. 

November 11 – November 22, The Stockholm Film Festival is one of the leading film festivals in Europe and a dream come true for all cineasts. Hundreds of movies from all around the world are presented in different cinemas around Stockholm. The Festival is also recognized for its ability to promote and offer a venue for young and unestablished filmmakers. As many as a third of the films selected are made by a debuting director and only directors who have made less than 3 films are selected for the competition. 

November 26 – November 29, Sweden International Horse Show traditionally takes place during the first Advent weekend at Friends Arena. Even this year, the absolute best riders and drivers in the world will gather.
